Alexander Engau, Associate Professor

Short Biosketch

Alexander Engau is Associate Professor of Operations Research and Optimization in the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver. An alumnus of the National German Merit Foundation, Alexander studied management mathematics and operations research at TU Dresden and Kaiserslautern, Germany (Diploma 05) and Clemson University, USA (MS 04, PhD 07). After his subsequent postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Management Sciences at Waterloo, Canada, he also spent several other invited research or teaching visits to universities in Canada, China, Germany and Senegal, and he currently serves as President for the Rocky Mountain Regional Chapter of INFORMS.

Alexander's research spans the theory and methodology of mathematical programming and decision making with previous contributions to interior-point methods for semidefinite relaxations of combinatorial problems and an ongoing interest in multicriteria optimization for decisions under uncertainty. Application areas of his results include the managerial and engineering disciplines as well as computational biology within the life sciences and have appeared in journals like Management Science, SIAM Journal of Optimization, Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, and European Journal of Operational Research. Also in his spare time, Alexander enjoys to stay busy with music, sports and exploring the outdoors.
