Practice and Midterm Exams

  • F08-2411-Test1-Exam.pdf: This is an old exam by Gary from Fall 2008. Although he used a different book back then with its material laid out a little bit differently, it should give you a reasonable idea on his testing style. We will go over some of these problems during class on Thursday (after the quiz).
  • S11-2411-Test1-Review.pdf [Answer Key]: This is a modified practice exam ("essentially just a set of problems covering most of what we have done so far."). As you will read in the instructions, you are allowed to use a simple, non-scientific and non-graphing calculator (no cell phones or other mobile devices) - please show it to me tomorrow to be sure it is okay. Good luck!
  • S11-2411-Test1-Exam.pdf [Answer Key/Results]: Here is a blank copy, the solutions, and the result sheet from Test 1. I talked to some of you after class, and we agreed that the best way to review the test is probably to take it again (using the blank copy), grading it yourself (using the key), and then assessing how you did in a non-test environment. If you need anything else, please let me know!
  • S11-2411-Test2-Review.pdf [Answer Key]: This is a practice exam for your second midterm on Tuesday, April 19th. Sections covered are 7.7-7.8, 8.1-8.6, and 9.1-9.4, and your quiz on Thursday, April 14th will be composed of five problems from this practice exam. Study hard, and good luck!
  • S11-2411-Test2-Exam.pdf [Answer Key/Results]: Here is a blank copy, the solutions, and the result sheet from Test 2. Use it to review and prepare for the final (see the suggestion for Test 1), and please let me know if you find further mistakes. Thanks!
  • S11-2411-Final-Review.pdf [Answer Key]: This Review Assignment is provided to remind you of the different types of math problems we have been working on throughout the semester. Working through the review should refresh your memory on 'many' of the topics and concepts we have covered in the course. **IMPORTANT NOTE** This review is NOT meant to provide you with an exact outline of the actual final exam. To accurately prepare we recommend studying your old quizzes, old exams, and old homework assignments to ensure that you comprehend the material covered this semester.

Written Projects

  • Project Topics: a set of problems from different areas that you can choose from
  • Project Guidelines: instructions on how to prepare and submit your project report

Homework Assignments

  • The below list shows all problems that are assigned as homework exercises. Problems on MayMathLab are to be submitted online by the following Monday at 10 pm and accrue a 20% penalty if submitted up to one week late. After that, MyMathLab will not allow you to continue work on that assignment.
  • Each Tuesday, you will receive a short homework quiz in class covering the material discussed in the preceeding week. Problems on these quizzes are chosen from among both the review (R) and true/false (TF) exercises in each section, plus ten selected other problems. You are allowed to use your own set of handwritten solutions for these quizzes, but encouraged not to for better prepartion for your exams!
